Origins of Christianity
The root of Christianity is Judaism. This is because Christ himself was Jewish, and he fulfilled the Hebrew scriptures that prophesied the coming of the Messiah. It is because of this reason that the whole of the Hebrew bible is included in the Christian Bible as the old testament.
Judaism is about four thousand years old and begins with the Life of Abraham.
This fact is very important in Christianity as Christ would often talk about the prophets of the old testament.
Jesus was born in Palestine in Bethlehem about two thousand years ago.
Jesus travelled around the local area performing miracles, healing an preaching until he was crucified.
After the resurrection and subsequent revelation of the disciples they went out into the world with vigour they had never known before. Preaching the gospel across the known world.
At this point in history Christianity was regarded as a Jewish cult and was persecuted by the Jewish authorities.
However it was about to explode as detailed in the book of Acts.
As Peter sees that the Holy Spirit purifies the gentiles. "What God has made clean you must not call profane" (Acts 11:9)
But now christianity began to spread throughout the Roman Empire.
